Raising awareness of the causes of childhood accidents. Accidental injury is a leading cause of death among children in the UK. Last year, around 300 children and young people were killed in accidents. To put this figure in perspective, this is five times as many children as were killed by family abuse or neglect, and 15 times as many children as were killed by strangers. Child Safety Week takes place in the last full week of June each year.Â
